HART is pleased to announce our Hero for the month of June…
Drs. Tom and Ann Fredal
Tom and Ann have been married for 41 years, and their journey together is a testament to love, service, and family values. In a beautiful twist of fate, both followed in their parents' footsteps—Tom as a dentist and Ann as an optometrist—carrying on the legacy of their family practices. Remarkably, their children have done the same: their son Tom Jr is now an orthodontist, and their daughter Tessa practices optometry alongside Ann.
Their introduction to HART came through Dr. Carol Abiragi, Tom’s sister. It was Ann who suggested to bring eye care to Haiti, a service HART had not yet offered. In 2015, Ann, Tom, and Tessa joined the mission to Haiti, where Ann pioneered HART’s first-ever vision care outreach. She brought with her a portable system capable of making custom eyeglasses on site—providing fitted frames for every adult or child in need.
Tom, meanwhile, worked tirelessly, seeing dental patients and offering compassionate care. That spirit of service continues to this day, when someone in Haiti needs prescription glasses and can send their prescription, Ann crafts the prescription glasses and sends them back personally. Together, Tom and Ann also lovingly sponsor a young boy and girl through the HART's HOPE program, continuing their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Tom and Ann remain deeply connected to HART, not just as donors but as people who have experienced the mission firsthand. They speak about how their faith—rooted in the Catholic tradition—instilled in them the belief that helping others is central to life. That conviction is what fuels their ongoing generosity and commitment.
They’ve shared how much they value HART being a Catholic/Christian-based organization—one that leads with heart, transparency, and authentic camaraderie. They’ve developed personal relationships with HART board members and decision-makers, and trust in the integrity and compassion behind every initiative.
It’s no surprise that their son Tom Jr and daughter Tessa are also generous HART donors. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! Their family is a close-knit unit—bound by shared values and a deep love for each other (and for golf!). Tom, Ann, Tessa, and Tom Jr make the perfect foursome, having played countless rounds together over the years. Even when competition gets fierce, love and laughter alway win out.
Thank you, Tom and Ann, for your unwavering generosity, your time, your resources, and your heartfelt support of HART’s mission. We are honored to know you, and deeply grateful to have you as part of the HART family. Your compassion and legacy continue to make a real difference.
