David kawalskiDavid Kowalski did NOT want to join HART’S mission trip to Haiti.
He had many reasons to stay home. But his wife, Angie, begged him. Being a great husband, Dave finally said yes. While visiting Mother Teresa’s Orphanage in Haiti, Dave noticed several babies who needed oxygen. However, 3 oxygen machines were unused, and were set aside against a wall. Dave is good at fixing things - so he asked one of the nuns, “Sister, can I try to fix them?” She said yes - and Dave was able to restore the machines! The nuns rejoiced and called Dave, “An angel sent from Heaven.” And Dave was hooked. He went to another orphanage and repaired their electrical system, and their water filtration system. And then when Father Roosevelt begged Dave to rebuild St. Jude Church (which was completely destroyed by the 2010 earthquakes) Dave pledged to help. Honestly, the HART Board thought this was too large a project. But Dave convinced us - and in 3 years, St. Jude was built. Later, Dave found out the kids at the Infants of Jesus Orphanage were sleeping on hard wooden mats. He arranged to buy half of them mattresses - and inspired HART to purchase the rest - for all 120 kids. More recently, Dave is building homes for homeless Haitians - but he still helps the orphans - in many ways. He has recruited family members and friends to raise money and travel with him to Haiti. Dave leads prayer, and builds hope through God’s love which pours from his heart. This once reluctant HART missionary has become not only a “HART HERO,” he is an inspiration to many of us. Dave Kowalski has shown us how one man can change the world through his love. |
